The latter knows the striker well given that Orsi was part of Roberto Mancini’s coaching staff at Inter, the club who gave Balotelli his Serie A chance.
“Balotelli is becoming fundamental for Italy,” Orsi told TMW after his brace in the 2-0 win over Malta on Tuesday. “He’s like Iniesta for Spain or Cristiano Ronaldo for Portugal.
“The Azzurri can identify with him even if boss Cesare Prandelli ultimately always prefers to focus on the group ethic.”
Balotelli had a problematic first half of the season at Manchester City, but he’s been in sparkling form since joining Milan at the start of this year.
“He’s back playing his football where he always wanted to – in Italy and with Milan,” the former Lazio goalkeeper continued.
“I’ve not been surprised by his performances, but I’m stunned by his positive attitude. He’s doing really well on so many levels.
“Can he improve? You have to when you are still just 23…”
Balotelli has scored seven goals in six games for Milan. He now has eight international goals in just 19 caps.
