The Italian international is persona non grata at Anfield, and has been looking for a move away all summer.

It appears the most likely option is a move to Ligue 1 side Nice, with reports last night that he’d take a medical in France this morning.

Today, L’Équipe and footmercato agree that a medical is scheduled, but it appears there still may not be a deal with the Reds, as Mino Raiola had warned yesterday.

Given his high wage, it’s likely that Liverpool would have to subsidise a loan deal, or allow Balotelli to leave for free – or a very low fee – and see him cut his wages at Nice.

Les Aiglons will give Super Mario a medical in any case, as the deal could go to the wire meaning there would be no time for the requisite tests later today.

In addition, Balotelli battled with a hernia injury last season and the French side want to be sure he’s fit and ready to go.

L'Équipe believes the deal is firmly in the balance, as Liverpool are playing hardball – the English side don't want Balotelli, but nor do they want to keep paying his wages or simply give him away.
