Palermo Coach Davide Ballardini admits tomorrow’s Atalanta game “is very important for us”.

The Rosanero have fallen to 19th in Serie A after their 4-0 thrashing at Juventus Stadium on Sunday, and face a real battle to stay in the top flight.

“I won’t give percentage chances of staying up,” Ballardini insisted in his pre-match Press conference.

“All I’ll say is that tomorrow is a very important game for us. I’m convinced that Palermo have good players and we can play good games.

“All I’ll say is that tomorrow is a very important game for us. I’m convinced that Palermo have good players and we can play good games.

“Not having fans [the game will be behind closed doors after crowd trouble against Lazio] isn’t good, but neither is having a crowd which jeers and whistles from the start.

“The lads have applied themselves in a serious way, if they struggle to get results that’s another matter. Their commitment has never been lacking though.

“With Juventus we did well up to a certain point, then when it went to 2-0 we fell apart and showed a lack of concentration.

“I think if the defence isn’t supported by the midfield and the attack then we’ll suffer. The team has value, and we must show that value.

“Atalanta are a good team, who are doing well. They had their problems, but they recovered.

“They have top players, and they’ve already secured their safety, but they won’t be on the beach already.”

Top-scorer Alberto Gilardino is a doubt for the match, and Ballardini admitted he isn’t sure if the striker can play.

“I don’t know if Gilardino will play tomorrow, we’ll see. He’s playing on with pain in his knee, he’s an example to his teammates.”
