Roma director Mauro Baldissoni realises second place is difficult, even if they beat Napoli, and comments on the Francesco Totti saga.

It kicks off at the Stadio Olimpico at 14.00 UK time (13.00 GMT), follow the build-up and action on our LIVEBLOG.

“The Scudetto is the Scudetto. We weren’t good enough to compete for that, so second is the next target and we are competing with three rounds to go,” Baldissoni told Mediaset Premium.

“We had hoped to be in control of our destiny, but we know even a victory today wouldn’t be enough. We still need to win in order to hope for second.”

Baldissoni was also asked about the Totti contract situation, especially after the player released a statement urging his goals to “unite and not divide” Roma.

“Francesco’s statement was aiming to calm those outside the club, not inside. It doesn’t make sense for us to see his goals and wonderful moments that gave everyone joy turned into a cause for controversy.

“Totti is the most representative player at Roma and remains our captain. As I’ve said many times, the discussion is between Totti and President Jim Pallotta and there is no reason to give an update every single day.

“It is a dialogue with the President and before the end of the season they will definitively clear up what has to be done. It is an issue that goes beyond just a playing contract, but also what Francesco’s future will be.

“The dialogue continues and when they are done, they’ll release a statement.

“Regardless of what happens next year, Francesco is a Roma player this season and if he steps on to the field, naturally everyone expects him to do well.”
