Roma director general Mauro Baldissoni hit back at Genoa President Enrico Preziosi for “silly” Mafia comments.

Preziosi told reporters after today’s 1-0 home defeat that he hoped “football is not involved” in the recent scandal around corruption in Rome.

“I think his statements were a little silly and do not even deserve a response,” Baldissoni said to Sky Sport Italia.

“I am sure the President simply let the words slip due to his disappointment and emotion straight after the game.

“I think Genoa faced Roma with the legitimate belief they could beat us, but unfortunately for them today Roma proved themselves superior on the field and that frustration emerged in an inconsiderate observation.

“If I may make a joke, I’d say Genoa were helped out today by Roma, because we should’ve finished the game a lot earlier.”
