Roberto Baggio could be an outside bet to become Italy Coach after Antonio Conte’s departure.

Conte has already announced he will be stepping down after Euro 2016, most likely to take over at Chelsea.

There are relatively few viable options to replace him, as Fabio Capello and current Bologna boss Roberto Donadoni have said they are not interested in the position.

Genoa Coach Gian Piero Gasperini and even Sassuolo’s Eusebio Di Francesco could be considered, while Gigi Di Biagio might be promoted from the Under-21 side.

A new rumour emerging on EuropaCalcio.it claims Roby Baggio is also in the thoughts of FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio.

Baggio has never coached, but he does have the right paperwork to do so.

The Divine Ponytail did have a role in the Federation from 2010 to January 2013, but left amid controversy.

“I don’t care about clinging to a seat of power if I can’t get anything done. I presented a 900-page programme in November 2011 and it was completely ignored.

“I was not given the opportunity to do the job I was given.”

Baggio had planned to revamp the academies and focus more on youth, but it’s possible he could be brought in as a Coach instead.
