Rolando Mandragora made his senior debut in a 3-1 defeat and hopes Italy can learn to trust young players the way they do in France.

The Juventus-owned midfielder spent last season on loan at Crotone and will turn 21 later this month.

“It was very exciting to make my senior debut, but France are one of the best teams in the world right now and it’s games like this that help us to grow,” he told RMC Sport.

“It was very exciting to make my senior debut, but France are one of the best teams in the world right now and it’s games like this that help us to grow,” he told RMC Sport.

“France are more advanced than us in terms of launching young players, as they trust young talent much faster than we do. Hopefully, Italian football can take steps forward in that sense.

“We were creating some good chances straight away after the restart and could’ve made it 2-2, but then their third goal knocked the wind out of our sails.”

Mandragora was used in midfield for a 4-3-3system and confessed it wasn’t something he was entirely comfortable with.

“I adapt to what the Coach asks of me. I haven’t tried that role many times, although during the course of the season I did fill in a few times.”
