Inter director Piero Ausilio urges André Onana and Romelu Lukaku to focus on Inter after their World Cup disappointments: ‘This is another story…’

Both Belgium and Cameroon were eliminated in the group stage in Qatar. Lukaku made headlines for all the wrong reasons, wasting goal-scoring opportunities against Croatia in the decisive group-stage game.

Onana, on the other hand, was dropped by Cameroon due to technical disagreements with coach Rigobert Song after the first game in the tournament.

“Lukaku is motivated, he knows this is another story,” Ausilio said at the Maestrelli Awards on Monday night, as quoted by Gazzetta.

“The World Cup involved his national team. Now he must be focused on Inter, I see a focused Lukaku.

“Onana has been with us for a week, I didn’t ask him what happened; what counts is that he is focused on Inter,” continued the Inter director.

Inter have made their offer to extend Milan Skriniar’s contract and Ausilio confirmed the Nerazzurri are waiting for a reply from the player and his entourage.

“There is always optimism, we are in talks, we’ve made an important offer and now we must take time, waiting for the lad and his entourage to make their assessments.

“What I can see is that Skriniar is extremely professional in training. He is super motivated and there are people working on his contract.”

Skriniar had been in talks with PSG over the summer and the Serie A giants have not offered as much as the Ligue 1 giants. Nevertheless, they hope the Slovakia international will commit his future to the club. His contract expires in June.

Did Ausilio talk to Lautaro after Argentina won the World Cup?

“I didn’t talk to him after the victory but during the World Cup. Club directors and teammates have been in touch after Argentina’s win,” he said.

Robin Gosens has been linked with leaving the club on loan in January, but Ausilio seemed to suggest the Germany international will go nowhere in the winter transfer window.

“I am seeing the Gosens of Atalanta, he is fit now,” he said.

“He remained out of action for a long time and struggled to recover fitness. Dimarco has proved that he can do really well. We have two players in every position and they are all strong and competitive.”
