The Nerazzurri must beat Lazio on Sunday to qualify for the Champions League, with rumours their captain could leave if they don’t make it to the top four.

“Mauro has a three-year contract with Inter,” Ausilio told Sky.

“I’ve always said that this situation wouldn’t change because of our league position. Reaching fourth or fifth would chance something for Inter, but not our desire to continue with our captain.

“Icardi stays, we have no intention of selling him. The [€110m] clause is there, but it has a deadline and is only valid for foreign countries.

“As long as it exists they can even talk with him but not with us.”

Lazio sporting director Igli Tare accused the Nerazzurri of “playing dirty” with their signing of Stefan de Vrij, but Ausilio denied that.

“I don’t want to answer anyone, Igli has given his opinion, I don’t know if he was referring to Inter.

“We communicated it to Lazio at the beginning of March, not by phone despite the relationship between myself and Igli.

“We deposited the contract very soon after that period, if Lazio want to check.

“On the other hand, it doesn’t seem to me that his performances have dropped off, besides being a good defender, he is also a good midfielder and attacker.

“Will he play on Sunday? I don’t care, I’m thinking about my defenders.”

Joao Cancelo and Rafinha are on loan from Valencia and Barcelona respectively, will they be signed outright?

“The deadlines are tight,” Ausilio confessed.

“It’s nothing to do with technical decisions, we had and continue to have no doubts – if anything it’s others who had them.

“From a financial point of view though we’ll be playing a different game at the end of the season.”
