Gian Piero Gasperini is hoping Atalanta beat Empoli on Tuesday to “cap off a fantastic” first half of the season and ensure the gift of sixth place at Christmas.

Atalanta have gone three games without a win but can reassert their grip on Serie A’s top six with victory over lowly Empoli, although the Tuscans are unbeaten in their last two and beat Cagliari at the weekend.

Gian Piero Gasperini is hoping Atalanta beat Empoli on Tuesday to “cap off a fantastic” first half of the season and ensure the gift of sixth place at Christmas.

Atalanta have gone three games without a win but can reassert their grip on Serie A’s top six with victory over lowly Empoli, although the Tuscans are unbeaten in their last two and beat Cagliari at the weekend.

“We must win to cap off this fantastic period and because we’d have the certainty of getting Christmas sixth in the table,” the Coach said at a Press conference.

“It’d be a great achievement. Our objective is to improve our position in the table as much as possible and have ourselves a nice Christmas.

“We have a great opportunity, but I must stress that it won’t be easy against Empoli.”
