Stefano Colantuono says that Atalanta are correct to dream of Europa League qualification, but has called for calm and focus first.

Stefano Colantuono says that Atalanta are correct to dream of Europa League qualification, but has called for calm and focus first.

The Bergamaschi are sat in eighth place after Week 29’s victory at Inter, which as the team’s fourth consecutive win in the League has their Coach fielding questions on more than avoiding relegation this term.

“The path is long and there are other difficulties to deal with,” Colantuono has begun today on Radio Rai.

“We are fine, though, because in the last four games we have won. We will try, whilst aware of the difficulties, I’m happy in Bergamo and I have a long contract, I am not thinking of anywhere else.

“This is the third consecutive year in which we are safe in Serie A and we are consolidating our position.

“We are slowly trying to grow and improve, we can aim for something prestigious like the Europa League, but without forgetting the importance of the budget.

“[President Antonio] Percassi and [director general Pierpaolo] Marino are ambitious, but we are not going to bite off more than we can chew – we have the potential and the right people here to talk of this, but only with the right calmness.”

La Dea sit seven points away from the European places and face Livorno on Wednesday evening.

“We will encounter a team that is looking for important points and it will be difficult. We should not make plans, but live each game with maximum intensity, if we are to achieve an important goal.

“We want to stay on the left-hand side of the table, then in May we will do the maths.

“If we win on Wednesday then it would be a fifth consecutive victory for the club in Serie A and that would be a record.”
