The FIGC has begun proceedings against Atalanta after their team manager made a discriminatory remark towards a Napoli fan yesterday.

Mirco Moioli called a Napoli supporter ‘terrone’, which is a derogatory term for a person of southern Italian origin.

It came after the fan had approached Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini [pictured] as he was leaving the team bus before his side’s match against Juventus, asking if they would ‘roll over like the last 10 years’.

Now, Tuttosport reports the FIGC’s prosecutor has been made aware of the incident and has decided to dig deeper, investigating Moioli and his club.

“I apologise for the turn of phrase I used towards this fake fan,” the team manager told reporters.

“I apologise for not being able to remain calm in the face of serious and defamatory accusations from this gentleman who, clearly, had planned the provocation.

“I’m not making excuses for my behaviour. I’m aware that I was wrong, even towards Atalanta.”
