The squad had been due to return to training next week, but their plans were forced to change after Valencia announced three players and two members of staff had tested positive for COVID-19.

As Valencia played Atalanta in the Champions League Round of 16 last week, as per protocol, the Italians are going into self-isolation as a precautionary measure.

Of the three players named by the media – Ezequiel Garay, Eliaquim Mangala and Jose Gaya – only Gaya played in the second leg at the Mestalla on March 10.

Mangala played at San Siro on February 19, while Garay was injured for both ties.

Despite being in the worst hit area by this pandemic in Italy, the Lombardy region, Atalanta have so far seemingly escaped contagion.

The 11 Serie A players who have so far tested positive are from Sampdoria (seven), Fiorentina (three) and Juventus (one).

There have now been 1,809 deaths from coronavirus in Italy, with 1,218 of those in the Lombardy region.
