After Georginio Wijnaldum, there has been another serious injury in Serie A, as Atalanta defender Berat Djimsiti was diagnosed with a fractured fibula.

The incident occurred during last night’s 1-1 draw with Milan at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo.

He was going into a defensive block when bravely throwing himself in the way of the opposition player’s finish.

A statement from Atalanta confirms that X-Rays showed a fracture of the proximal third of the fibula in his left leg.

Djimsiti has already started treatment, but it is not yet clear how long the 29-year-old Swiss-born Albania international will be out for.

It’s a heavy blow for Atalanta, who already have defender Jose Luis Palomino out indefinitely after failing a doping test in pre-season.

Djimsiti only recently signed a new contract to stay with Atalanta until June 2026, having arrived in January 2016 from FC Zurich.

He has 162 competitive appearances for the club, scoring seven goals and providing six assists.
