Atalanta announced that the UEFA inspection was positive, so they should soon be able to play 2020-21 Champions League home games in Bergamo.
“The club would like to announce that the two days of visits to the Gewiss Stadium from the UEFA commission were positive,” read a statement.
“The inspection showed the need to perform more work, which will be done over the next few weeks, after which Atalanta can play their 2020-21 Champions League home games at the Gewiss Stadium.”

Their arena, which was called the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia until the naming rights made it the Gewiss Stadium last year, is currently undergoing radical reconstruction work.
Atalanta had to play their European home fixtures at Sassuolo’s Mapei Stadium for the Europa League, then last season were allowed to use the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza – San Siro – in Milan for the Champions League.
The dream was to play their Champions League matches in their hometown of Bergamo and that is about to come true.
“It’s safe to say this is enormously satisfying and another dream come true,” said President Antonio Percassi.
“We cared about this so much. The Gewiss Stadium, once the work has been completed as requested by UEFA, will be up to code for the Champions League too. Fantastic.”
Atalanta qualified for the Champions League for the first time in their history last season and reached the quarter-finals, eliminated only in stoppages by Finalists PSG.
They are back in the competition for the 2020-21 campaign, having finished third in Serie A.
