Atalanta are back in the bidding war for Milan midfielder Giacomo Bonaventura, battling Torino, Fiorentina and Lazio for the free agent.

Bonaventura’s contract expires at the end of this season and he is therefore fielding proposals from various other Serie A sides.

Torino had emerged as the clear favourites, but La Gazzetta dello Sport insist Atalanta are surging forward again now.

The 30-year-old would effectively return home, as he came up through the Atalanta youth academy until his €7m transfer to Milan in 2014.

He struggled with injuries this term, but still managed three goals in 19 competitive appearances for the Rossoneri.

Bonaventura is also wanted by Fiorentina and Lazio, but Atalanta could provide Champions League football under Gian Piero Gasperini.
