Ahead of their match against Nottingham Forest, Arsenal players sent a message of support for Pablo Mari, the defender on loan at Monza who had surgery after a supermarket stabbing.

The squad posed with Pablo Mari’s Arsenal jersey during the warm-up at the Emirates Stadium.

The incident occurred in Assago, on the outskirts of Milan, in a shopping centre on Thursday evening.

A 46-year-old Italian who had been under psychiatric care grabbed a knife from the shelves and stabbed six people, killing a cashier.

Pablo Mari was reportedly the first to be stabbed in the back and had surgery on Friday morning to help suture some of the back muscles that had been damaged.

Fortunately, the knife did not strike any vital organs and the Spaniard was released from hospital this morning.

He has been told to have complete rest and is not expected back on the field for three months.

Pablo Mari spent last season on loan in Italy for Udinese.
