Alberto Aquilani is waiting for offers, having torn up his contract with Pescara – “I have a huge desire to get started again”.

The creative midfielder spent the final six months of last season on loan with Sassuolo, but is now a free agent after terminating his contract with the Delfini.

“I still had two years on my Pescara contract but I preferred it this way,” Aquiline told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I wanted to play, and I’d have done it but it’s better to wait. I’m living with serenity, without anxiety.

“I still had two years on my Pescara contract but I preferred it this way,” Aquiline told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I wanted to play, and I’d have done it but it’s better to wait. I’m living with serenity, without anxiety.

“I’ve taken advantage of spending a bit of time with my family, so there’s a positive side. Meanwhile I’m training, I’m fit and I have a huge desire to get started again.

“I’ve got some offers, so we’ll see over the next few days.

“Last year at Pescara we started with good ambitions, but it all fell apart before we’d even started. Then I had a good six months at Sassuolo but it was only a loan.”

Aquilani came through the Roma youth system, but left to join Liverpool for €20m in 2009.

“I feel lucky to have played over 100 games for the club I love, winning a few trophies. In football though you have to be able to make choices without regrets. At the time my transfer fee helped the club.

“Never say never in football, Roma are in my heart.

“Would I go to Lazio? Even with the affection and esteem I feel for Simone [Inzaghi], I could never do it. Really.”
