Alberto Aquilani is reportedly being lined up for a return to Roma in a coaching role.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma will restructure their youth operations this summer.

The newspaper adds that could see Aquilani take over their Under-16 team or assist Daniele De Rossi’s father with the Primavera side.

The 34-year-old came through the Giallorossi’s youth system and played 149 times for their first team, before joining Liverpool in the summer of 2009.

The 34-year-old came through the Giallorossi’s youth system and played 149 times for their first team, before joining Liverpool in the summer of 2009.

Although he has not formally retired from professional football, the ex-Italy international has been without a club since leaving Las Palmas last year.

He is actively involved in the youth scene, having bought junior outfit Spes Montesacro 1908 in January.
