Fiorentina legend Giancarlo Antognoni regrets not winning more silverware despite being a member of the 1982 World Cup-winning side.

The former midfielder spent 15 year at the Artemio Franchi and very nearly inspired his side to the title in Serie A only for Juventus to pip Fiorentina to the post.

Speaking at a celebration in his honour, Antognoni said: "The 1982 World Cup was my only trophy, but I really wanted to win a Scudetto with Fiorentina even if the love of Florence is worth much more."

Asked about Adrian Mutu's desire to overtake him in the club's all-time top goalscoring charts, Antognoni said: "Adrian is the present and the future of Fiorentina. I believe that they will do everything to keep him.

"It's not easy to find another player anywhere else in the world like Mutu.

"If I had played with him I would have scored a lot more and had the chance to admire his greatness on the pitch. He is the real phenomenon."
