Fiorentina director Giancarlo Antognoni warns “replacing Nikola Kalinic is not easy” and doesn’t think Federico Bernardeschi will stay for life.

Kalinic appears to be close to a move to Chinese side Tianjin Quanjian, who could activate his €50m release clause.

“Kalinic is an important player for Fiorentina,” Antognoni told reporters in Rome.

“So far he’s played good football and scored a lot of goals. Losing him would be very bad for us. It’s clear that replacing Kalinic is not easy, so the club will have to think about it.

“For Kalinic it’s an open discussion, because there’s a transfer market and nothing is certain. He has a release clause, so we’ll see what happens.

“Right now he’s still a Fiorentina player though. If Kalinic leaves a player of equal value definitely won’t arrive, because it’s difficult in January, but we’ll get someone who can play the same role.”

Antognoni, who has made more Serie A appearances for the Viola than anyone, was also asked about Bernardeschi.

“He has a Fiorentina heritage and for the moment he’ll stay with us. It’s always difficult to see him staying for life though, there’s no certainty.”
