Aurelio Andreazzoli believes Empoli deserved to win their trip to Venezia, not just because they missed chances, but the equaliser ‘should’ve been disallowed.’

The Tuscans dominated the first half at the Stadio Penzo and took the lead through Szymon Zurkowski, but wasted numerous opportunities and were eventually pegged back on 1-1 by David Okereke.

“We were unable to score a second goal, but frankly should’ve had three or four in the first half alone,” Andreazzoli told DAZN.

“If you don’t kill off the game when playing that well, you are going to risk the opponent getting back into it. The equaliser was avoidable, largely because there was a very clear foul on Zurkowski in the build-up and he was down on the ground when they scored.

“I’d like you to take a look at Zurkowski’s shin and tell me if that was a foul or not…

“I liked the football we were playing in that first half, the lads and the fans both appreciate the aesthetics, but we have to be more productive with it too and transform more of that into goals.”
