Aurelio Andreazzoli claimed ‘a favourable deflection’ was the only thing that separated Empoli and Hellas Verona in the 2-1 defeat on Monday.

The two clashed in an intense match at the Bentegodi, when Adrien Tameze secured the winner in the 90th minute for the home side.

Empoli had cancelled out Antonin Barak’s opening goal through Simone Romagnoli, but Andreazzoli’s men had to leave Verona empty handed after a good performance against Igor Tudor’s men.

“What Verona had was what we were missing,” Andreazzoli said at a press conference after the match. “A favourable deflection.

“Sometimes the matches are decided by unpredictable situations that often occur. The 2-1 result was the result of a deflection.

“We had some great opportunities with Di Francesco and Bajrami. I congratulated the team, they behaved as I wanted them to. They came to play against a team who are proving a lot, who have important individuals.

“What we didn’t achieve today, we will try to get on Saturday, but I think we will recover if the intentions and the character is similar to today.”
