If Claudio Ranieri rejects the offer of a new deal with Roma, the club's new owners will try to appoint Carlo Ancelotti, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.

Ranieri is said to be unhappy that despite his achievements last season Roma's prospective new President Thomas Di Benedetto is only prepared to give him a one-year rolling contract.

Naturally, the Tinkerman feels he is entitled to greater faith after leading the club to a second place finish in the 2009-10 campaign.

Liverpool are thought to be entertaining the idea of hiring Ranieri this summer and if they do Roma will make Ancelotti their No 1 choice to replace him.

It's no secret that Ancelotti plans to take charge of Roma at some point during his career, though it remains to be seen whether he is ready to leave Chelsea.

There has been friction at Stamford Bridge these past few months, notably after Ray Wilkins left the club, which coincided with Chelsea's worst run in years.
