De Laurentiis has decided to turn to Ancelotti, as he wants the team to be more competitive in Europe after witnessing Roma’s run to the Champions League semi-finals.
Things could be defined as soon as Wednesday, as the President will remain in Italy until Sunday, with a party for his birthday on Thursday.
Ancelotti couldn't officially take over until Sarri leaves or is sacked, but there is an €8m release clause in his contract which is valid until the end of this month.
