Carlo Ancelotti shrugged off Real Madrid critics after the 2-0 win over Inter to top their Champions League group. ‘You don’t win with possession, you win if you score goals.’

Much like the 1-0 victory at San Siro earlier in the group, the Merengues were clinical in attack where their Italian counterparts were wasteful.

There were two stunning long-range efforts from Toni Kroos and Marco Asensio to give Samir Handanovic no chance, while Nicolò Barella saw red for a reaction foul after Eder Militao barged him into the advertising boards.

Inter needed a victory to leapfrog Real Madrid into first place, so the pressure was all on the visitors.

“When Inter had more control in the first half, we still ran relatively few risks and didn’t need to do anything extraordinary, especially after taking the lead,” Ancelotti told Sky Sport Italia.

“We were dangerous on the counter, could’ve had a second just before the break, so it all went pretty well.

“People are a little critical here and complain Real Madrid don’t dominate possession, but you don’t win games with possession, you win if you score goals.”

Ancelotti was asked for his impressions of Simone Inzaghi’s Inter, who are different from the Antonio Conte side that won the Scudetto.

“Inter are a strong side, they are difficult to control, because they attack well, control the match and it was frankly not in our interest to press them high. We did that a few times and ran risks, so this way we can defend better.”

  1. Real Madrid faced a squad that only scores in half of their champions league matches and took over 300 minutes to score against Shaktar so this loss was not a surprise whatsoever.

  2. @I miss Branca

Branca won the CL in the 21st century while your juve hasn’t won it since the 20th. Just saying
