Kalidou Koulibaly and Nikola Maksimovic will be suspended for the second leg, with Raul Albiol still out injured, so Vlad Chiriches and Sebastiano Luperto may well have to play at centre-back.
“It was a foul playing out from the back that could’ve been avoided. I am not worried about their absence, as we have reliable centre-backs, but I was more concerned by the lack of balance in the final stages.
“It’s a good result, there are still 90 minutes to play and we cannot make calculations. We did some things well, some not so well, and we’ve got to work on those,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“We allowed some dangerous counter-attacks and through runs that at 3-0 we really could’ve avoided. We can be impenetrable when we defend well, but we get too exuberant and try to push forward.
“Salzburg have proved they’ve got great pace and stamina, so we need to be on alert. We need to score at least a goal in the second leg, otherwise we’ll run risks.”
After missing a late penalty in the 2-1 defeat to Juventus, Lorenzo Insigne was dropped in favour of Dries Mertens.
“You don’t need a European mentality to know Insigne played the entire game against Juventus on Sunday and was more tired than Milik and Mertens.”
Ancelotti was asked if he had seen his old club Paris Saint-Germain lose to Manchester United last night, going out of the Champions League despite winning the first leg 2-0 at Old Trafford.
“It was incredible. Incredible. If I had been on the PSG bench, I don’t know what I would’ve done. Probably find the closest bridge and jump off it.”
