“Christmas is an important time for all of us,” he said at a Press conference.

“We’ll try to combine the work aspect with the festive one. We’ll train at Christmas. It’s a nice new development for Italian football.

“Fans take advantage of Boxing Day to bring their families to stadia in a relaxed way. Three important games are coming up and we want to get maximum points from them.

“Insigne and Koulibaly on yellows? They’ll play regardless. I’m not making calculations with the game against Inter in mind. I’ll play the best Xi available to me.

“There won’t be Allan, who has a back problem. No-one will arrive in January, the squad satisfy me and they’re competitive as they are.

“An extra player would result in problems for management. No-one will leave, unless somebody gets stuck in front of the gate at our training complex because they want to be sold.

“At the moment I see a compact and happy group. If I said I liked Pavard then that would be a lack of respect for Hysaj, Malcuit and Maksimovic, who I’m very happy with.

“The market doesn’t interest me much right now. My experience of Serie A as an outsider was different.

“Here I’m seeing more participation, the stadiums are full and VAR has helped, even if it needs improving, plus there haven’t been any big controversies.

“If we managed to get to the Europa League last 16 with Inter and Lazio then we could start talking about the recovery of Italian football.

“As for discrimination, I see the position taken by the FIGC President and it’s yielded some results.

“We have competition for places in attack. Insigne, Mertens and Milik have all had good spells and the latter two have no problems playing together.

“Until now I’ve preferred to make the most of whoever’s in best form. Verdi? He’s available and he’ll be among those called up.

“In any case, let’s hope it will be a 2019 with fireworks.”
