Carlo Ancelotti has proven himself an expert in the Champions League and has tied Manchester United hero Sir Alex Ferguson in experience in the competition.

The 63-year-old Italian coach has lifted European club football’s greatest honour four times before in his career, being the only coach to do so – with Milan in 2003 and 2007, and Real Madrid in 2014 and 2022.

Ancelotti also set an incredible record in European football last season after guiding Real Madrid to the Spanish league title, becoming the only coach to win all of Europe’s top five leagues.

As highlighted by Opta Jose, Real Madrid’s Champions League semi-final first leg against Manchester City is Ancelotti’s 190th game in charge in the competition, tying Ferguson as the coach with the most matches in the competition. He will become the sole record holder in the second leg of this tie.

In his 189 previous games in the Champions League, the Italian coach has overseen 108 wins, 40 draws and 41 losses.
