Former Parma, Juventus and Milan tactician Carlo Ancelotti has been confirmed as the new Coach of Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain.
Ancelotti, out of work since leaving Chelsea at the end of last season, is understood to have agreed a two-year contract to take over at the Parc des Princes from January 1. His first game in charge of the current French League-leaders will be against former side Milan in a friendly in Dubai on January 4.
“I hope to do a great job,” commented Ancelotti at his unveiling this afternoon. “I will do my best to learn French in the best possible way, although I’d rather continue to speak Italian.”
Ancelotti admitted that he was initially reluctant to take the job, but said that he was eventually sold on the idea by the size of what the Qatar-owned club is planning.
“I accepted because I believe I can do a great job. I think we can make PSG the biggest club in Europe.
“Transfers? My role will be to stand on the field with the players. With the club there is unity of purpose. The club will take care of the transfer market.
“There are ideal conditions to do well, because it is a club that has great ambitions for the future and I am very excited by this project.”
The move for Ancelotti continues the club’s recruitment of Serie A-experienced men. The summer saw the arrival of a number of players from the Italian League whilst former Milan man David Beckham, Palermo full-back Federico Balzaretti and current Milan forward Alexandre Pato are all linked with transfers to the club in 2012.
Ancelotti, who has won 14 major honours as a player and 10 so far as a Coach, is reunited with former Rossoneri director Leonardo from their time together at San Siro. The Brazilian was present at Friday’s Press conference, introduced Ancelotti to the waiting media and sat alongside him as he took questions.
The news of Ancelotti’s arrival follows the club’s earlier confirmation that previous Coach Antonio Kombouarè has officially departed after two years in charge.
