Cagliari’s Bruno Alves has revealed how Cristiano Ronaldo advised him to make his summer move to Sardinia.

The 34-year-old completed a free transfer to the Serie A club from Fenerbahce in June, where he has made seven appearances so far this season.

In an interview with Gazzetta Dello Sport, the Portuguese defender said his international teammate Ronaldo helped him come to his decision, as did Cagliari Coach Massimo Rastelli and club President Tommaso Giulini.

“Cristiano Ronaldo advised me Cagliari and Sardinia,” Alves admitted. “Then Giulini and Rastelli convinced me.”

Newly-promoted Cagliari have taken seven points in their six League matches this season, with the defender admitting that preserving their Serie A status is the main priority.

“It’s a tactical League with a high level and high pressure. Any errors made should serve as a lesson.

“We have a young defence, our Scudetto is staying up without too many problems.”
