The 52-year-old was linked with the hotseat after Zizou vacated it in the summer of 2018 but chose to stay at Juve.

He departed Turin over the summer and had planned to take a year off, but he could now be tempted by the call of the 13-time Champions League winners.

Despite his potential availability, ex-Inter boss Jose Mourinho is the favourite to take over.

Mourinho previously managed Madrid between 2010 and 2013, winning a Spanish title and the Copa del Rey.
