Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri has claimed that the Coppa Italia is a trophy his side are keen to win this season.

The Rossoneri face Reggina tomorrow evening and the 45-year-old has revealed that his side are aiming to win the competition.

“For us it is important to go as far as we can in the Coppa Italia,” he told a Press conference. “In the early rounds nobody cares all that much.

“But if you win it, your name goes down in the annals of history.”

He also commented on the speculation surrounding Robinho's departure from the club, as well as their recently improved form.

“It is normal that Robinho would have admirers,” he said. “It is evidence of his good performances, but he will remain an important player for Milan for the second half of the season.

“We played really well against Torino [last Sunday]. We have come from a good period, but we still have room for improvement.

“We want to finish this calendar year as close to first place as possible.

“I knew we could get over those difficult moments [at the beginning of the campaign]. But we have not done anything yet.

“Now we need to improve our level of play and go into the New Year in a better position in the table.”

The former Cagliari man concluded by revealing that some players will be leaving the club in January, and also had some words of advice for Stephan El Shaarawy.

“We have a squad of 32, but the board and I will only talk after the match against Roma [on December 22].

“We all agree though that some young players will have to leave to gain experience and other will leave to get some first team football.

“Stephan is doing fine, but he is only 20-years-old and still has a lot of room to grow.

“He has to improve his overall game and linking up with teammates – but all this is normal.”
