“We were too hasty in the first half and ended up misplacing too many passes,” commented the Coach.

“Lazio defended very well this evening, but they never had a genuine shot on goal. At times we played well, at others we were too chaotic, but we had so many chances and hit the upright twice in the same move. I think overall we deserved a victory.

“The good news is that we have kept a third consecutive clean sheet. We have played six games in close succession now and had to field Mathieu Flamini for 90 minutes despite the fact he's not 100 per cent fit.”

The official Milan website confirmed their two injured centre-backs have been taken to hospital for tests.

Bonera went off at half-time after accidentally receiving an elbow to the face from Libor Kozak.

He has suspected head trauma and had been receiving treatment throughout the first half with ice packs.

In the final minutes, Kozak also accidentally clipped Nicola Legrottaglie in the head with his knee.

The ex-Juventus defender was stretchered off and could have whiplash.
