Massimiliano Allegri is “happy with the opportunity to work for another two years with Milan” after signing his contract extension.

The negotiations had been dragging on for many months, but were finally put to bed on Friday when he penned a new deal until June 2014.

“I am happy with the opportunity to work for another two years with Milan,” he told Milan Channel.

“I thank President Silvio Berlusconi and Vice-President Adriano Galliani for their faith in me. I believe we have everything we need to continue the work started a year and a half ago.”

The deal comes just before Sunday’s huge Serie A clash against local rivals Inter.

“The derby is always a delicate encounter and I think this edition is particularly important, about as much as last season.

“Our objective now is to have a great derby and reach the end of the season trying to win the Scudetto, do great things in the Champions League and going forward in the Coppa Italia.”
