“There were several chances in the first half and Marco Amelia did well to keep Lazio at bay,” said the Coach.

“My team did well and we really wanted to reach the semi-final. Hopefully we can keep going and reach the Final, too.”

Allegri reshuffled his squad for the Coppa tie, as Mesbah was given his first start in a Milan jersey.

“Mesbah had a good game and defended in a very orderly fashion. El Shaarawy is improving with every match, while Merkel also played well. It’s just a shame Merkel picked up that injury and it will be evaluated over the next few days.”

German youngster Merkel was brought in to help calm the injury crisis in midfield, but limped off this evening with a sprained left knee.

Catania striker Maxi Lopez was spotted in the stands for this game, fuelling reports he’ll complete his transfer within 24 hours.

“As Adriano Galliani said, we will sign either Carlos Tevez or Maxi Lopez.”
