That success was followed by a Coppa Italia triumph against Milan on Saturday, marking their second domestic double in a row.

“After four years in which a cycle was finished, in which experienced players left – not just Pirlo, Tevez and Vidal but Storari, Pepe, Ogbonna and Llorente were a part of that winning team – 10 new players arrived and it wasn’t easy,” Allegri told Rai Uno.

“We had a moment of difficulty, but firstly the club and then the players put ourselves back in line.

“We were 14th in the table after 10 rounds, the guys did something extraordinary together with the club.

“Winning 25 games out of 26 isn’t simple, the numbers were extraordinary, the season was memorable and it finished with the beautiful Coppa Italia victory.”
