Juventus coach Max Allegri explains his surprising decisions against Empoli, including Moise Kean starting and Leandro Paredes dropped again.

It kicks off at the Allianz Juventus Stadium in Turin at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

The Bianconeri stopped the rot with a hard-fought 1-0 win over local rivals Torino in the Derby della Mole, but are still 10 points adrift of Serie A leaders Napoli and face early elimination from the Champions League.

They will be in Portugal on Tuesday against joint group leaders Benfica, but are still missing Angel Di Maria, Mattia De Sciglio, Federico Chiesa, Paul Pogba and Kaio Jorge.

“It is not easy, because Empoli play good football, are sharp, well-organised, so we need to play as a team and with great focus, otherwise Saturday’s performance becomes irrelevant,” Allegri told DAZN.

The coach was asked why Paredes has been dropped for the third match in a row, while Kean was surprisingly picked instead of Arkadiusz Milik again after the Torino game.

“Kean is in good shape, so is Milik, so I simply made a choice to make the most of Kean’s form, as he played well against Torino.

“As for Paredes, we’ve got a game coming up on Tuesday, Empoli are a side who press hard and run a lot, so for 60-70 minutes we need to be on the same level of intensity.”

What lessons does Allegri think Juventus need to take from the difficult start to this term?

“The lessons Juventus need to learn is that to win games, we need to have the attitude of a team, without being hasty or rushing to secure the victory early, but remain consistent over the 90 minutes.”
