Juventus Coach Max Allegri thinks he “has a lot in common” with Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola.

The pair will face off in Turin for the Champions League Round of 16 on Tuesday evening.

“I admire Guardiola a great deal, as his Barcelona side had so much class,” Allegri told German paper Süddeutsche Zeitung.

“I think we have a lot in common. We were both midfielders, as most Coaches are, and we both had good technique.

“I was never a champion, of course. I find it fascinating that a mid-level player can become a good Coach.

“Of course we study the opposition, but it wouldn’t make sense to spend 24 hours a day on that, it’d drive me crazy.

“I always tell my players: you form the system. They have to be happy playing, otherwise there’s no point stepping on to the pitch.

“I seek inspiration regarding the tactical system to use until the day before the game, then I choose the line-up and I often modify it during the match.”
