Kalidou Koulibaly’s agent says Napoli Coach Maurizio Sarri “realised he could trust” the defender.

The Senegalese international was close to being sold this summer, but played 90 minutes in the successive 5-0 wins over Club Brugge and Lazio.

“After a few games, Sarri realised he could trust Koulibaly,” Bruno Satin explained, speaking to Calciomercato.

“The lad can grow and reach the highest level, and I’m not surprised to see such perforances, it’s just Kalidou back to normal.

“The Coach wanted to change something in the defence given the number of goals Napoli have completed.

“Under [former Coach Rafa] Benitez he initially played consistently, then in January, thanks to a physical decline [Miguel] Britos was preferred and so he won a starting shirt.

“I must say, yesterday all the team worked. When [Gonzalo] Higuain is driving them, [Lorenzo] Insigne is on fire and [Marek] Hamsik is back to playing well, it changes the whole team and you get a top performance.

“Now comes the week of truth, first there’s Carpi, then Juventus will come [to San Paolo] and it’s after that we’ll understand the real value of this Napoli.”
