Gabriel Paletta has requested a transfer after Milan did not offer him a new contract, confirmed the defender’s agent. “Many clubs are interested.”

The 31-year-old centre-back matched an all-time Serie A record this season with five red cards.

“We met with Milan and as things stand they do not intend to renew Paletta’s contract, so because of that, we asked to leave,” agent Martin Guastadisegno told Calciomercato.it.

“In agreement with the Rossoneri, with whom the rapport is excellent, we will find the best solution.”

His current deal is due to expire in June 2018 and there has already been one offer from Genoa.

“We thank the Genoa directors, who stepped forward for Gabriel straight away and who I met last week in Milan, but so far we have been unable to give them a definitive response, because we are evaluating all the possible alternatives.

“We’ll see what happens over the next few weeks, as many clubs are interested in Paletta.”

They are reported to include Atalanta, where he already played on loan in 2015-16, and Sassuolo.
