The agent of Gabriel Paletta has confirmed that talks have been opened with Milan over a new contract for the defender.

Paletta has completed all-but-four of Milan’s Serie A matches this season, a far cry from his 2015-16 campaign that saw him shipped out to Atalanta, and Martin Guastadisegno claims the 30-year-old, whose current deal expires in 2018, is having “his best season in the Italian League”.

“There’s been contact with Milan to renew [Paletta’s] contract,” the representative told Calciomercato.

“There’s been contact with Milan to renew [Paletta’s] contract,” the representative told Calciomercato.

“Gabriel has become a very important player under Montella, with whom he’s found a great understanding.

“We’re on the same wavelength with the club, we know that they have other priorities at the moment, therefore there’s no rush. Still, the intention is to continue together.

“We always talk with [Milan], as I said before. I’m in Italy to be near Gabriel, us Argentine agents manage our clients in a different way than in Italy.

“We’re close to them for anything. I must say that this is probably Paletta’s best season in the Italian League.

“I think he can still play another five years at a high level and he wants to do it with Milan. We understand the club and their needs, but we’re optimistic that there won’t be any problems.

“I won’t rule out that it happens in the next few months.

“Italy? I have one regret, I’m very disappointed that he’s not been taken into account by Ventura.

“Gabriel chose, with his heart, to wear the Azzurri jersey. He’s done so already at the 2014 World Cup and he deserves another chance for what he’s doing with AC Milan.

“What I can say for sure is that we respect the Rossoneri, we’re very optimistic because we’ve had encouraging signals from them regarding the renewal of his contract.”
