Michael Manuello, the agent of Milan and France striker Olivier Giroud, discussed why the move to Serie A was so beneficial for his client.

The French veteran joined the Rossoneri last year from Chelsea in a deal worth around €2.85m, adding an experienced winner to Stefano Pioli’s squad. Giroud has proven himself vital for Milan since his arrival, scoring 23 goals and providing nine assists in 57 appearances across all competitions.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Manuello discussed his client Giroud’s move to Serie A and how it benefited him.

“Italy completed him because they ask different things of him. In Serie A he stays more in the area than in the past and has the responsibilities of a starting striker.

“Often in the hierarchies Olivier has been a number two or a number one and a half, while at Milan he is one of the team’s reference points.”

The 36-year-old Giroud is part of Didier Deschamps’ France squad for the World Cup in Qatar and his tournament got off to a perfect start, with the Milan striker netting a brace in the opening win over Australia.

The Frenchman has now tied Thierry Henry as Les Bleus’ most prolific player in history and one more goal would see him hold the record outright.
