Marco Verratti’s agent says rumours that his client will miss out on a spot in Italy’s World Cup squad are hard to believe.

The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder is speculated as one of those set to miss out in Cesare Prandelli’s final selection for this summer’s tournament in Brazil.

“When I read the news I fell off my chair,” Verratti’s agent Donato Di Campli has responded this week on the rumours, to Tele Radio Stereo.

“Many colleagues have asked me during this time how it is possible that Marco is likely to be cut.

“There is maximum respect for Prandelli’s selections, but we are talking about the best young player, in performance, in Ligue 1, and the second best player after Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

“Prandelli was the first to call up Verratti, I respect that, but do not talk about tactical problems, please – he has played the whole season as an inside midfielder alongside Thiago Motta.

“The problem, if anything, is only that he is Italian – I am sorry that players like Florenzi, Insigne and Immobile are finding little space.

“They would bring freshness and high performance, but, they are forced to emigrate, as Marco has done and how Ciro may also do.

“Yesterday I accompanied Verratti to Coverciano, he continues to amaze me with his serenity.”
