The striker arrived from Santos this summer in a deal worth close to €30m, but so far has made just two substitute appearances for a total of 17 minutes.

“In Italy the Coaches prefer older players, more mature,” Wagner Ribeiro told ESPN Brazil.

“I thought that Gabriel would get his chance, but none of that has happened. He came with a certain status and hasn’t been given a chance, if he had and he’d played badly I’d understand.

“Obviously he’s going through a natural process of maturation, he grew up in a different culture and the football here is faster but he thought he was coming to Inter to play.

“Inter is like a national team, and Gabriel can feel the pressure on his shoulders from the Press and from Brazil.

“For our part we want to stay at Inter, he wants to become a starter but to do that he has to be given chances.

“I’ll travel to Milan in January to see if Inter want to keep him or loan him out.”
