The 32-year-old joined the Flying Donkeys on transfer deadline day, on loan with an obligation to buy, and wants to do well enough to earn an Azzurri call.

“Antonio was fine at Sassuolo, but marriages take two and Chievo really wanted him,” Mario Fogliamanzillo told Tuttomercatoweb.

“Antonio was fine at Sassuolo, but marriages take two and Chievo really wanted him,” Mario Fogliamanzillo told Tuttomercatoweb.

“Having looked at Chievo’s offer, we took this step. Leeds United? It was an idea, but the lad preferred to stay in Italy.

“He wants to play and score goals. Maybe he’ll play in another position, with less defensive responsibilty, and maybe – who knows – dream of the Euros.

“Dreaming is allowed, meanwhile Antonio is thinking about scoring goals. He’s fired-up and ready for this new adventure in a Chievo shirt.”
