Skriniar ended up joining Inter for €27m including Gianluca Caprari over the summer, yet Antonio Romei revealed the defender could have been sold to Borussia Monchengladbach for much less, had Samp listened to Karol Csonto.

“We don’t have any big plans for January, although we’ll see if we can take care of a couple of things regarding surplus players,” he told Secolo XIX.

“Skriniar? I remember one winter’s day at our training ground. I was watching a Primavera training sesson and there was one of his representatives, Csonto.

“He approached me and told me that he’d received an offer we couldn’t refuse from Borussia Monchengladbach for €8m. I asked him if he was joking…”
