The patron has launched a series of snide remarks in Sarri’s direction since replacing him with Ancelotti in the summer of 2018.

After his time at Chelsea, winning the Europa League and finishing third in the Premier League, Sarri is back in Serie A with Napoli’s arch-rivals Juventus.

“I have always been adamant that squad rotation was necessary for success, even back to the Sarri days. That is why we didn’t get along,” De Laurentiis told reporters.

“Evidently the confidence and international experience of Ancelotti allows him to trust the rotation process.

“I am intrigued by all the Napoli players, both new and old. Hirving Lozano is excellent, as are Giovanni Di Lorenzo, Kostas Manolas and Eljif Elmas.

“We are the only team with three really strong goalkeepers, but nobody talks about that. It’s not that we have a first, second and third choice, these are all capable of being the primary pick and that gives the club and Coach a feeling of security too.”

Napoli have Alex Meret, David Ospina and Orestis Karnezis competing for the gloves.
