President Aurelio De Laurentiis insisted he’ll sign “a top player” for Napoli in January and praised Coach Maurizio Sarri.

The patron spoke to Radio Kiss Kiss about 2015 and what he expects from the 2016 winter transfer window.

“The move we have in mind can be done in January. We are consolidating what we have, but also need players who are functional to the project.

“On the one hand I’d like to bet on 16 or 17 year old geniuses, but at the moment I prefer to spend a few more millions to get players who are ready.

The patron spoke to Radio Kiss Kiss about 2015 and what he expects from the 2016 winter transfer window.

“On the one hand I’d like to bet on 16 or 17 year old geniuses, but at the moment I prefer to spend a few more millions to get players who are ready.

“Napoli must have champions. There is no doubt we will sign a top player, as we must go forward and keep improving.

“We need players who we respect, not just for their headlines in the papers, but who have been verified and proved they deserve Napoli.”

It’s reported the targets are Torino defender Nikola Maksimovic and Fiorentina midfielder Matias Vecino.

“We’re doing everything we can to rush the process. It’s best to get someone in as soon as possible so he can assimilate Sarri’s tactics.

“When bringing new players in, we first need to wipe out all they knew before so we can sow the seeds of Sarri’s ideas.

“I never had doubts on the Coach and did well not to sell our players over the summer, despite the huge offers. We resisted because we wanted to give the Coach a strong squad.

“We end 2015 with the pride of being a big club in Europe, but in 2016 everyone has learned to fear us, so it’ll be even tougher.”

De Laurentiis also had praise for the Partenopei supporters.

“The fans have become more patient and are realising that football is in a process of change. They know that their President has a vision of the future, of what we’ll be in 10 or 15 years. We’ve been together 12 years now and they’ve flown by.”
