Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis reiterated he “could not oppose” anyone coming in for Coach Maurizio Sarri with the €8m clause.

The tactician is negotiating a new contract, but his current deal wouldn’t stop him from moving to Chelsea, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain or elsewhere.

“Sarri’s contract has been signed and deposited for three years, but in the world of football everything gets put into doubt, regardless of contract status,” De Laurentiis told the Corriere dello Sport.

“In this case, there is a release clause worth €8m. If someone were to turn up with that money and he had the ambition of something different, then I could not oppose it, that is what it says in the contract.

“Napoli know we cannot go beyond certain revenue limits, we are fighting to change the rules so that we can increase our planning and revenue streams, in turn enabling more spending.

“Transfer fees have reached ridiculous heights since the Arab investors took over various clubs. It all needs to be revamped. For example, over the next five years I need to invest in a new stadium and Napoli training centre. That’s at least €120-150m I need to put on the table.

“It’s not a matter of whether I want to invest, but if Napoli are capable of getting enough revenue to justify these investments.”

Napoli and Juventus go head-to-head in Turin next week and as things stand there are four points separating them.

“I think the decisive thing will be avoiding defeat to the end of the season and whoever manages that will probably take the title.

“To be honest, I’d be enthusiastic about fighting for the Scudetto with a play-off match. Imagine the millions of people who would watch that! We discovered in a survey that there are over 80 million Napoli supporters around the world and we are working to create a network that can link them, especially as we’re missing details from China.”
